SOLD OUT! Walk Across the Potomac-Historic Whites Ford

August 1 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

In conjunction with the Poolesville Seniors, Jon Wolz will lead a walk across the Potomac at White’s Ford on Saturday, August 1st. We will meet at 9:00 am at the Dickerson Conservation Park parking lot (20700 Martinsburg Rd, Dickerson, MD 20842 ) and walk down the towpath one mile to the ford. We will walk about one quarter mile across the river to the Virginia shore. Jon will lead the group to Mason Island. Then, if you wish to continue we will have escorts to walk to the Virginia side. You should wear closed-toed shoes that can get wet, and a walking stick would be useful when crossing the river. Bring drinking water.  You may choose to bring extra socks for the return trip along the towpath. Participation is limited to people (no animals)  and participants must register in advance. Participants must be aged thirteen and older and if under 18, accompanied by an adult. Participants must know how to swim. Registration is limited.

The walk will be canceled and rescheduled to August 8 if the river rises to an unsafe level, if the temperature is too hot or if thunderstorms are forecast.
